Child Orthodontics

What is the right age to straighten your child’s teeth?

Young man smile

Professionals agree that earlier is better. There are even some forms of orthodontic therapy which can be started before the permanent teeth are in. Generally, you want your child checked at age 6 to start to watch their tooth alignment.

If your child was a thumb sucker, or you see a significant over bite (upper teeth are in front of the lower teeth) or an under bite (lower teeth in front of the upper teeth), there are some options you would like to get started on as soon as possible.

Today with so many options in treatment (clear braces, small metal braces, temporary implants, Teen InvisAlign, aligners, etc) the most important thing is to get started early. Orthodontic therapy can correct facial structure, move teeth and correct bites resulting in amazing and beautiful smiles. It is best to start early before the child has grown so the orthodontist can direct the tooth movement in concert with the child’s growth.
